Hello Lil Samb and I've a good time on the forum

Hello every one! I am a little new so most of you will not know me. My account on Howrse is bennett3. I absolutly love horses! I currently am leasing a 7 yr. old bay Quarter horse named Mickey! I do ride english and I event mostly in Beg. Novice and Novice. But when I train I have jumped as high as Prelim! So don't be mistaken that Quarter Horses can't jump! Right now I am saving money for a big Thoroughbred.

Aw, what a cute boy! Abby (my qh mare) is my avatar as well. Although she's just eating, not jumping.

It's so old. It uaed to be a light pink but faded in the sun. We bought her a new hunter green one and it looks great on her. Hunter green looks fantastic on bays.

Hunter and maroon are my cross country colors!
Do you event abby or do you ride western?

Right now I'm just doing hunt seat and jumping. I would eventually love to do cross country, however. Abby hates getting wet, however, so that will be quite an obstacle. I would love to event, but I really have to work on my confidence over jumps first.

I still get scared jumping sometimes so dont feel alone. I remeber the first drop into the water on Mickey...What happened was he got scared and started to suck back so I used some leg and spur right before the drop and he catapolted into the air! He still isnt excited about getting wet! Once you get ur confidince about jumping you will grow to absolutly love it and eventing is such a thrill, Im sure that you would love it!

I've been to some eventing shows and have just LOVED it! It looks like such a challenge, and I'll be the first to admit I hate hunter shows. The judges are so picky and have favorites (especially by where I am). Most of the judges are like 80 and their former studets always win.
I've yet to fall off of Abby (knock on wood). But I know she will refuse over water. Her previous owners couldn't get her to jump (or walk through ) water either, so that's going to be an interesting training experience eventually.

I went to a Simon Eades clinic and one horse was terrified of the water and refused to go through. It ended up they had to get 3 loung whips on the left and right and behind the horse to get him in! I'm sure Abby will pull through for you edventually!

I comletly agree on your feeling son hunter show. I like horse shows so much! I love everything from the middle of the night you go check on your horse and the overall riding.
It maty be hectic but it is so fun!

Today I had a jumping lesson and we jumped 3'3!

She's not so much afraid of it, she just hates to get her feet wet (she's a very girly horse). She will go through if you make her, but its a huge production. I have to work on simple walking, trotting, and cantering through water before I'm jumping into it.

I'm one of teh few to not have taken any huge spills in my years of riding. I've been riding for six years and have only fallen off once. It was my second lesson, and my balance was terrible. The horse I was riding went left, and I went right. Needless to say, there was NO horse beneth me. I landed on my butt, adn the horse was short (only 14.3 hh). It was no big deal, but its been the only time I've fallen off. There have been many almosts (I tend to ride spooly horses. how fun) however I always manage to stay on (somehow).

Hey, that's great! I've been focusing on dressage lately. Abby is a lazy igrl and we're working on her collection. SHe refuses to round on hte canter, so its pretty terrible. She's rounded through courses, but on the rail, she doesn't bend her knees. Silly girl.

If you mean round as pput their head down then this may or may not help...

Im not possitive this will work but when Mickey would noy round in the canter my trainer told me to have have some pressure on his mouth then to kick him into the bit and he would eventually bend and give.

Yes, she is ignoring the cues though. She will properly bend neck, and round back and eveyritnhg, but she insists on not bending her legs. She's grown terrible lazy. Since I refuse to use a crop or spurs (my trainer completley agrees with me), it will take quite some time for her to give up and listen to my cues. I really don't mind though. This really all just for fun, and as long as we're both having a good time I'm happy. I don't show seriously, and she used to show serisously, so we both like the laid back attitude we have riding only a couple of times a week.

Thats great I like your idea of not using whips and spurs, They are sort of artificial aids... If only i could do that with mickey. Mickey is so very stubborn that we had no other options so I ride with spurrs and a whip but we also event super seriously so that makes a different... I wouldn't be able to get him over the 1st cross counrty if I didn't have spurrs!

Unfortunatly our last jumping lesson Mickey sort of gave up and it doesn't look like I will be jumping him...
He was slow to every jump even if I used every part and ounce of my energy he wouldn't move forward...
I am in serious need of a horse....

Im a forum guru....been on them for years . (Meaning i have been on sevral difrent forums. Also have been a moderator for lots of them. Still am)

Aw, poor Mickey! Is he perhaps in pain? Poor guy.
Abby loves to jump more than anything, so I doubt I'll have that problem. We're working on not rushing through courses. If it was up to her, we'd be galloping through courses set above 4 feet. She LOVES to jump more than anything else.

Pinkkeeyy and bennett3, before this gets out of hand, please stop arguing. There is truly no point ot it.

Nope not in pain just he wants to be a schooling pony for lessons. He just doesnt love it anymore. I have about 10 horses we are looking to buy and its difficult to remember them all.
sometimes I wish that Mickey would want to fly around the coarse!

Aw, poor guy. That tends to happen with lesson horses. I'm sorry he won't jump for you anymore. It's good that you're looking at horses though! Do you have any websites where I could look at them? I'm curious (and horse shopping is so much fun!) It seems like you really love Mickey. At least you'll still get to see him!

The websites I've been using that are good are dreamhorse.com and equine.com. They both have some awsome horses. It's true I do love Mickey he taught me to walk trot canter gallop and jump!
My trainer found this awsome TB gelding that loves to jump. My trainer is bringing him home so we could do a trial on him! I'm soo excited!
